Robert Wilkins (1951*-1962; Millfield)
We are very sad to learn that Robert passed away on 2nd December 2018, with his family by his side.
Alan Sherlock (Member of Staff 1971-91)
We are sad to report the recent death of Alan, who was a long-standing member of the Millfield Maths Department.
His funeral will be at Mendip Crematorium on Wednesday 5th September at 10.30 am.
In his spare time, Alan was a keen sailor and in 2012 he was awarded the prestigious Royal Yachting Association Lifetime Commitment Award for his work as membership secretary for Bristol Corinthian Yacht Club.
Christopher Harding (Member of Staff 1982-2007)
We are sad to report that Chris, who taught Geography and ran the Modern Tetrathlon at Millfield, died on 9th December 2018 after a long illness. He retired from full-time teaching in 1999 but continued to work part-time until 2007, when he retired to Poole. In his retirement Chris played bowls in the Bournemouth and District Premier League and maintained his links with the school and the area as secretary for Butleigh Amateur RUFC and as a very active member of the Millfield Masonic Lodge.His funeral will take place at the Poole Crematorium, Gravel Hill, Broadstone, Poole, BH17 9BQ on Saturday 22nd December 2018, at 11am, followed by refreshments (and, no doubt, many anecdotes!)at the Queens Hotel, Meyrick Road, Bournemouth BH1 3DL
David Wilkinson (1970-1974; Kingweston)
We are sad to learn that David died on 7th November 2018. He had been fighting a particularly rare cancer for 18 months which he bore with characteristic stoicism and courage and the minimum of fuss.His funeral is on Thursday 22nd November at 12 noon at St Mary’s Church, Frensham, Surrey followed by refreshments at Hankley Common Golf Club, Tilford, Surrey.
Logan Hunter (1945-1949; Millfield)
We are sad to learn from his wife, Julia, that Logan passed away on 22nd April 2019.
Max Dolan (1998-2002; Butleigh)
Max Dolan (Butleigh House: 1998-2002) sadly died of a sudden heart attack on Tuesday 11th December 2018 at the age of 33.
He was a happy-go-lucky, passionate, funny, kind-hearted and talented actor, musician and sportsman.
The family are holding a ceremony at the crematorium in Jersey on Friday 21st December at 1.15pm. They ask that you come dressed in casual and if possible colourful clothes. Flowers from Mark Howe that can be recycled for future use to help those in need and donations to Mind Jersey are gratefully welcomed.

John Graveney (1961*-1967; Hollies)
We are deeply saddened to announce that John passed away peacefully after a long, brave battle on Sunday 28th October, surrounded by his family. John was deeply loved and will be hugely missed by all. Funeral service 30th November, 11.30 at Holy Trinity Church, Westbury On Trym followed by a private family cremation. There will then be a celebration of his life at Gloucestershire County Cricket Club, Nevil Road, Bristol, BS7 9EJ. Family flowers only. Donations to be made C/O Co-Op Funeral Directors, 20 High Street. W-O-T. BS9 3DU for the Friends of Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre.
Elizabeth Bailey (Member of Staff 1953-57 and 1974-84)
It is with great regret that we announce the death of Elizabeth, who passed away on 15th December 2018. Elizabeth, the wife of the late Wyndham Bailey OM, was a much loved colleague at both Edgarley and Millfield, who graced many staff reunions and events over the years.A Service of Thanksgiving for Elizabeth's life will take place on Friday, 25th January, 2pm, at St Dunstan's Church, Baltonsborough BA6 8RL, followed by a gathering at 4 Hayward Drive, Baltonsborough BA6 8PJ, to which all her friends and colleagues are warmly invited.We extend our deepest condolences to Elizabeth's large, Old Millfieldian family, in particular her daughters, Sarah, Lucy and Amanda.
John Gardiner (1961-1965; Day)
We were sad to learn that John died last Sunday, 7th July.John’s funeral is taking place on Friday 19th July at 2pm at the church of St Michael and All Angels in Somerton Family flowers only but donations can be taken by the Funeral Directors, Forsey’s and Son of Somerton
Paul Hutchins (1961-1963; Etonhurst)
We are very sad to report the death of Paul Hutchins,MBE, who was involved in British tennis for more than 50 years as a player, Davis Cup captain, coach, tournament director, commentator and talented administrator, passed away on Wednesday aged 73 following a battle with Motor Neurone Disease.
Roger Gibbs (1952-1953; Kingweston)
We were very sad to learn that Sir Roger died on Wednesday 3rd October 2018. A Service of Thanksgiving will be held on Friday 15th March 2019 at 2.30 pm at St Paul's Cathedral. Lady Gibbs wishes to extend the invitation to attend to all Sir Roger's Millfield friends.
Timothy Earle (1965-1968; Etonhurst)
On 29th April 2019, peacefully, in his sleep, at his home in West Vancouver,Tim passed away after a 13 month struggle with brain cancer. , Tim's joy, sense of humor, energy and fundamental decency will be missed by all who knew him.
John Taylor (1954-1958; Kingweston)
Cecil John Ernest Edward Taylor, known as John Taylor passed away on 29/03/2019 at Beaumont Manor Care Home in Great Holland, Essex aged 80.He represented Millfield in hockey, rugby and cricket. After leaving Millfield, he played for Somerset County Cricket Club before having a long and successful career in media advertising.His funeral is at 1.30pm on Friday 17th May 2019 at Weeley Crematorium in Essex.
Michael Waugh (1956-1959; Kingweston)
We are sad to learn, from his son, Matthew, of Michael's death on 13th June 2019 in hospital, from pneumonia and related illnesses.
David Kemp (Member of staff 1966-78)
We are sad to report the death of David who was Head of Tennis at Millfield for over 10 years. David's funeral, to which former colleagues and pupils are warmly invited, will take place on Monday 4th March,12.30pm, at the Mendip Crematorium, Old Wells Rd, Croscombe BA5 3RR.OM Andrew Jarrett writes:-On Sunday 17th February Millfield tennis lost one of its greatest figures in David Kemp. David was head coach through some of the school's most successful periods starting in 1966 through until the late 70s, overseeing the development of so many outstanding players who went on to achieve much in the sport.David's enthusiasm, energy and sheer love of sport inspired those he worked with to believe they could achieve more. He was friend, mentor and confidante to hundreds down the years and his connections throughout tennis reached far and wide. Though greatly saddened by his passing, the school can look back on his enormous contribution and celebrate a golden era in Millfield Tennis.
Sheila Stephenson ()
Sheila Stephenson (Housemother - Kingweston House autumn 1957 to summer 1966 and member of staff autumn1966 to December 1976). It is with great sadness that we annouce the death of Sheila who passed away on the 16th March 2019, wife of the late Frederick Stephenson, member of staff and house master of Kingweston House.Sheila's funeral service took place at Yeovil Crematorium on 9th April 2019, after which her friends and colleagues gathered for refreshments at the Northover Manor Hotel, Ilchester.We extend our deepest sympathy to Sheila's daughter, Penny, an Old Millfieldian herself, and family.
Gwynne Brindley (Member of staff 1986-99)
We regret to announce that Gwynne passed away on 14th February 2019, peacefully, after a short illness.Gwynne, a retired Methodist minister, was a very popular teacher of clarinet, piano and music at the school, and also Head of House for day girls. There will be a private family cremation but a Service of Thanksgiving will be held at Leigh Road Methodist Church, Street BA16 0HA on Monday,11th March at 3pm. Donations may be made to 'All We Can' or 'Leigh Road Methodist Church, Street'.We extend our heartfelt condolences to Gwynne's family.
