Omani cricket on the up thanks to Qais
Qais Al Said (1993-97; Ivythorn) is not only a key playing member (one of only two Omanis) of the Oman cricket team, but also the vice-president of the National Cricket Board, and he is determined to take the sport in his country, where mainly expatriates play the game, to the next level.
Qais, who hopes to popularize the game and attract more Omani players into it, was recently in Nepal with the team to compete in the ACC Twenty20 Cup, through which Oman has notably achieved the qualification for the T20 World Cup qualifier in Dubai in March.
Qais was in the 1996 and 1997 School 1st XI, opening the bowling alongside former England pace bowler, Simon Jones.
Tom and Adam in Young England Squads
Tom Maynard's part in Surrey's success this season has been rewarded with a place in England's Performance squad to train at Loughborough until November before heading to India to work for a place in the England Lions tours to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in 2012. Tom scored over a thousand runs for his county and was their leading batsman in the T20 competition.
Also off to Loughborough is Essex's Adam Wheater, named in the 13 strong Development squad, which will continue to either Sri Lanka or India, and the hope of Lions selection next year.
Wicketkeepr Steve helps himself and Somerset
Millfield cricket coach, Steve Snell, has made the most of his opportunity to play for Somerset in the absence of their two main keepers, Craig Kieswetter and Jos Buttler, with some some telling performances with both gloves and bat in the domestic CB40 competition and the Champions League in India.

Instrumental in the win that ensured promotion was a century by Tom Maynard, highlights of which you can see here
Rory also played a match-winning innings of 78, before being run out, in the final of the CB40 competition against Somerset earlier this month. Three other Old Millfieldians then featured as Tom Maynard, who was Surrey’s fourth batsman, scored 17 runs before being caught by Craig Kieswetter off the bowling of Arul Suppiah.
A fifth Old Millfieldian in the match, James Hildreth, scored just three runs on another disappointing day for Somerset, who have now lost five 40 over finals in the last three years.
James finishes with a century
James Hildreth ended an otherwise disappointing season with a magnificent century in a match Somerset eventually lost to Lancashire and one which assured the Red Rose county of their first Championship title since 1934.

Arul spins his way to a record
Arul Suppiah took an T20 record-breaking 6 wickets for 5 runs in his 4 overs for Somerset in their victory over Glamorgan on 6th July, in a match where all 15 wickets to fall were taken by spinners, including 2 by Arul's team mate Max Waller.
Craig and James rescue Somerset
Craig Kieswetter and James Hildreth shared a 5th wicket stand of 290 for Somerset in their recent County Championship match against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge. Having lost early wickets, the county side was in a desperate position in their first innings, but Craig’s career best 164 and James’ 137 knocked the stuffing out of the title-holders, who eventually had to resign themselves to a draw.

Adam's first County Championship Century
Adam Wheater's stunning maiden century, made off just 95 balls in 115 minutes, with 14 fours and one 6, rescued Essex from a parlous postion in their second innings of their championship match with Northamptonshire at the end of June and put them in a position of overwhelming superiority, which resulted in a comfortable win.
Having made a golden duck in the first innings, Adam went on to make 164 in a partnership of 253 with ex-England wicketkeeper James Foster, a new County record partnership for the sixth wicket.

OMs in the runs (255 in total in one day!) at Croydon
Rory Hamilton-Brown answered Essex all-rounder Graham Napier's record breaking, six-hitting innings in fine style for Surrey, making an unbeaten 148 on the first day of their county match on 20th May, eclipsing Kevin Pietersen's return to county cricket. Matthew Maynard scored 43 in an opening century partnership with his captain and fellow OM.
This followed OM Adam Wheater's 64, his maiden half-century for Essex, made in a 101 partnership with Matt Walker.
