Contemporaries of Chris Baker (1997-2004; Edgarley & Day) may be surprised to read that someone who was noted at Millfield more for his academic than athletic prowess has met with success in a sport that is genuinely challenging.
Chris began playing Ultimate (a fast-moving, points scoring game played with a flying disc) briefly at school, and continued at university, when he won the BUSA/BUCS Nationals 4 times, gaining the greatest number points of any club in 2007-08, and when he also played for the top Scottish club side. Having moved to London, he switched to Clapham Ultimate, a club that has now won 10 UK National Championships in a row.
This year, after eight months of training six days a week in the gym, on the track and on the pitch, Chris has been selected to represent Great Britain at the European Championships in Slovenia in August, and at Labor Day 2011 in Santa Cruz, California - one of the most competitive tournaments in the world and serving as a warm-up to the World Championships in 2012.
Chris is aiming to bring home a gold medal not only at the European Championships (where GB is defending its title) but also at the World Championships (where GB finished 4th in 2008).
For these prestigious events, Chris is looking for sponsorship to cover the essential expensive travel, registration, insurance and accommodation costs, which will eventually amount to several thousand pounds over the eighteen months until the Worlds.
