Dorset Karter Clinches Second Place in Spanish Championship
Since exploding onto the European karting scene in late 2007, Luke Wright (2001-08; Edgarley and Kingweston) has very much been ‘one to watch’. Building on this early promise, he went on to achieve even greater results in 2008, opening his account with victory in the first round of the Italian Open Masters series at Lonato. Shaftesbury teenager Luke gave his burgeoning reputation a further boost and finished the season as the Spanish Open Vice-Champion (taking several podiums in the process) and claimed 3rd place in the concluding round of the historic Industrial Trophy race at Parma. Bird Graduates to GP2
Sam Bird (2003-2005; Kingweston) - pictured right - has graduated to GP2, the world’s most competitive Formula One feeder series. He has joined Championship winning team ART Grand Prix for the Asian series which starts at the newly-completed Abu Dhabi circuit, performing alongside the F1 luminaries. Sam has enjoyed a successful time in Formula Three, competing in the UK and Europe, with 19 podiums to his credit, and feels that the time is right to move on. “I’ve learned a lot in F3, but I feel I have matured as a driver and am ready for the next challenge, so when ART invited me to join their team, I had no hesitation in stepping up. It will be a big learning curve but I have trained for this moment and am very much looking forward to it. Learning about pit stops, driving in the desert heat, and being among the F1 teams is all a part of what I am aiming for in the next year or two”.
