Margaret's goal come true

Maggs Rees (Acacia; 1997-99) has had her dream of playing in the Commonwealth Games fulfilled, having learnt last month of her selection as goalkeeper for Wales in the games to be held in Delhi in October. She has been one of the country's goalkeepers for over a decade, having played in the Junior World Cup in Argentina and in Russia in the World Cup qualifiers.

OMs for India

Richard (1992-99; Edgarley and Day) and Simon Mantell (1994-2002; Edgarley and Day) have both been named in England's Commonwealth Games squad, with goalkeeper Nick Brothers (1994-01; Edgarley & Shapwick) going as a travelling reserve.

This is particularly welcome news for Richard after sustaining a serious leg injury in the World Cup in March, when he fractured his right fibula and dislocated his ankle playing against Pakistan.

Younger brother Simon is also included in the 16-man squad after an absence with a broken foot, although he did appear for the national side, as did Nick, in the recent Four Nations Tournament held at Nottingham, in which Great Britain finished second to Germany.

The Games begin in Delhi on 3 October, with New Zealand, Canada, Malaysia and Wales in England's pool.
