FEBRUARY 2012: A Message from Lisa Duguid (1998-2006; Edgarley and Warner)
Whizz-Kidz is a registered charity who provides the movement for non-mobile children. It enables disabled children and young people the freedom to enjoy an active childhood – at home, at school and at play. By providing them with customised mobility equipment, wheelchair training, advice and life skills, it gives the independence to themselves. Being able to live an independent life is sometimes taken for granted today, but for them it means everything.
Running the London marathon is an achievement in itself. Running for such a remarkable charity has given me the inspiration to help raise money for Whizz-Kidz and help them transform the lives of over 6,000 young people.
With an estimated 70,000 disabled children in the UK who could benefit from appropriate mobility equipment - approximately 10% of the total disabled child population. Costing on average 3 times as much to raise a disabled child as a non-disabled child, with your help I want to raise as much money as possible to ensure at least one child’s individual needs are met.
To help contribute and show my commitment and appreciation, my aim is to raise a minimum of £2,000.
It would be very much appreciated if you could spare anything you can give to help me achieve my target of £2,000.
Your help would go a long way - the mobility equipment Whizz-Kidz provide costs from £750-£2,000 for an adapted tricycle, £2,500-£3,500 for a manual wheelchair, £1,000-£3,500 for a specialised tricycle and from £2,500-£15,000 for a powered wheelchair. The average direct cost of providing appropriate mobility equipment is £5,900.
