Dr Rodney Pell

One of the most distinguished of Old Millfieldfieldians, he qualified in medicine from the London Hospital in 1962 and held various posts in London hospitals before being appointed Consultant Surgeon in Traumatology and Orthopaedics to the City and North East Thames Area Health Authority in 1973. In 1993 he resigned from the NHS to pursue full-time independent practice and medico-legal work. Elected to the Academy of Experts in 1996, he was appointed a First Tier Expert Witness by the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers in 1999. The first doctor to use diagnostic ultrasound at the London Hospital and St. Bart’s, Rodney Pell also invented the hip fracture fixation device. He has written more than 10,000 reports and had experience of high-profile traumatic events such as the Hillsborough Disaster, the Zeebrugge Ferry sinking and the Cannon Street rail crash. He now lives happily in retirement with his wife, Maura, in Ramsgate.
