Results in the 2010 General Election for our OM Parliamentary Candidates

David Heath (Edgarley and Day; 1963-72) Liberal Democrat, was re-elected as MP for Somerton and Frome, increasing his slim majority over the Conservatives in 2007 to almost 2,000.

David is Deputy Leader of the House of Commons.

Margot James (Ashcott; 1970-75)  took the Labour marginal seat of Stourbridge for the Conservatives, with a comfortable majority of over 5,000, following a swing of 6.9%.

Charlotte Leslie (Acacia; 1995-96) pulled off an impressive victory for the Conservatives in Bristol North West, with a majority of over 3,000 from the Liberal  Democrats.

Ian Liddell-Grainger (Hornblotton; 1972-77) Conservative, was  re-elected as MP for Bridgwater (West Somerset), with a slightly reduced, but nevertheless comfortable, majority from the Liberal Democrats. Ian has held the seat since the 2001 Election, when he succeeded the retiring Tom King, now a Life Peer, Baron King of Bridgwater.

Julian Smith (Shapwick; 1987-89) retained Skipton and Ripon for the Conservatives, with a slightly reduced but still substantial majority of nearly 10,000, from the Liberal Democrats.

Julian is PPS to Alan Duncan, Minister of State at the Department for International Development.

Ben Wallace (Day 1983-88) Conservative, was elected MP for the new constituency of  Wyre & North Preston with a majority of 16,000 over Labour.

Brian Mathew (Shapwick 1973-79) stood for the Liberal Democrats in North Somerset against Liam Fox. Whilst not elected, Brian managed to increase the Lib Dem vote by over 6,000 and get the highest vote of any Lib Dem candidate that did not get elected in the South West of England, with 20,687 votes. Brian is the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesman for North Somerset

NB Ruth Kelly (Edgarley 1979-81) former Labour MP for Bolton West and Minister in bothTony Blair and Gordon Brown's governments, did not stand in the election. Labour retained the seat with a majority of just 92 votes from the Conservatives!
