After the usual doubts about who exactly was going to turn up we eventually produced a formidable array of talent on the Millfield Jubilee Field, and the game was very well supported by parents, OMs and a good number of students. Both sides produced very attractive and competitive rugby.
After an early try from the youngsters the Legends fought back strongly to finish the match 24-24. The Academy (dare I say due to their superior fitness) scored the deciding try in extra time. Highlights were Kirk King’s hat trick and Patrick Chenery sidestepping his way over the line from fully five yards out! About 70 people enjoyed a good lunch after the game and everyone agreed that it had been a very successful and enjoyable day.
It is an event we plan to organize annually and next year our aim is to assemble two full squads.
