OMS Thailand Reunion 2009 In April, 24 Millfield pupils went to Australia to participate in an international schools’ golf tournament. En route they enjoyed a week’s holidaying and golfing in and around Bangkok, the golf programme being overseen by Martin Platts (1974-78; Keinton), a golf professional with his own golf centre in Thailand. The group’s presence was a catalyst for a major OMS Reunion there on Monday 6th April at the prestigious and magnificently appointed Royal Bangkok Sports Club. 120 OMs, former, current and prospective parents and several VIP guests enjoyed a superb evening, although it was disappointing that His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn (1966-70; Millfield), President of the Branch, was unable to attend. The occasion was superbly organised by OMS Thailand Branch Secretary, Greg Pitt (1968-71; Rotherslade), whose law firm Mackenzie Smith Law most generously sponsored the event. Headmaster Craig Considine, and Rod Speed and John Davies and their wives, having attended a similar memorable reunion a few days beforehand in Hong Kong, were also there, the trip from Millfield being the Headmaster’s maiden voyage to meet the Millfield Family overseas. Greg chaired the evening and John explained the history and development of OMS overseas branches and, in view of the large numbers of OMs and current pupils at the school, how important the Thailand Branch was to Millfield. Craig, slightly nonplussed after being assaulted (by pupils and others as part of Thailand’s annual water throwing festival) spoke about his vision for Millfield and outlined latest developments at the School. It was a wonderful reunion, a very special Millfield event appreciated by all. Well played Greg Pitt! With Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn as President of the Thailand Branch, Chittrapat Krairish (1965-70; Etonhurst) as Personal Private Secretary to His Majesty the King and Niphon Promphan (1969-70; Orchards) as Secretary-General to the Prime Minister, Millfield’s presence is a most significant one in Thailand.
