On Friday 18th January 2009, 35 OMs, current, former and prospective parents and a sprinkling of Sri Lankan and Maldivian dignitaries gathered at the Taru Villas Restaurant “Number 18” open-air roof-top for the most convivial of Millfield reunions; unfortunately, several other OMs had offered apologies and were unable to attend.
Old Millfieldians spanned five Millfield decades, Branch Chairman Ana Punchihewa (1967-71; Kingweston), former President of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board of Control in its mid-90’s world cup glory days, offering the warmest of welcomes to John and Fran Davies, John having been his housemaster for a while 38 years earlier.
In reply, JHD spoke about Millfield and Old Millfieldian Society developments, all impressive and some astonishingly so, since his last visit and the last reunion 4 years earlier. Considerable interest was shown in the School and it seems certain that, in the very near future, even more young people from Sri Lanka will be educated in (fairly) Sunny Somerset.
